Highlands is a paradise of trees, shrubs, and wild flowers. As you walk through the woods you see tall pines, and hear the wind whispering through i them* You see the rich blooms of the rho- j dodendron, white, or pink, or purple. You I (con*t. page 5) I — — — — — — —— — — 1 IfAI'IOUS ARCHITECT A^ID DESIGNER CELEBRATES I BIRTHDAY AT HIGHLANDS COUNTRY CLUB I Major Henry Hornbostel, well known archi- jteet and designer of many public buildings I and bridges, celebrated his 88th birthday I last Monday at the Highlands Country Club where he and Mrs* Hornbostel are spending the month of August, Mr, and Mrs« Hornbostel have a home in Melbourne Beach, Florida where they have made their residence for the past four years. The Hornbostels went to Melbourne Beach from Harwinton, Conn® and before moving to Harwinton they lived in Pitts burgh, Pa« where the Major was Professor of Architecture at Carnegie Institute of Technology. Henry Hornbostel was graduated from Columbia University in 1891• During his university career he made a name for him- ael.f on the track team as well as in his study of architecture. After graduation he went to Europe for further study at Ecole des Beaux Arts, in Paris, and travel- (con’t. page 7) / L |l955 FLOWER SHOW i Ihe 1955 Flower Show, sponsored by the iHighlands Garden Club, was blessed by a |fine, sunny day and an enthusiastic group of some 400 spectators* j It would be difficult to say which was I the finest part of the show, the artistic 1 arrangements, the horticultural specimens, the very beautiful commercial exhibits of various gift and decorating shops, or the superb displays of special exhibitors. / Mrs. Robert Reese won the coveted sweep stakes award with 81 points and numerous (con*t. page 9)
